Widely admired by his contemporaries, he was often called the “prince of ceramics” and the “king of ornament. Most of the reliefs, sculptures, decorative plates and dishes on view belong to the collection of Kyösti Kakkonen.

Sweden transformed Kaipiainen’s work, adding stronger, more vivid tones to his colour palette and also the influence of mysticism and surreal artists, like Nils von Dardel or Marc Chagall appeared in his motifs.
